    Hi Lain, Hope this reaches you. Marinara from scratch has to be one the best and easiest things to make as I’m sure you have seen a gazillion recipes put there. Seriously, when you make it from scratch you won’t ever want to eat anything from a jar. Promise.
    The basic authentic Italian way as I learnt is: few Tbsp of olive oil in the bottom of a pan, a handful of finely chopped onion, 2 cloves crushed garlic and 2 lg tins of good quality roma/italian plum tomatoes. that’s it! and salt to taste.
    start of w/olive oil + onion in bottom of pot gently sweating until soft and add garlic when almost done then add tomatoes reduce heat and simmer for at least an hour. the tomatoes break up as they cook down. give them a stir every so often. it’s that simple.
    some like to add a pinch of sugar – perfectly fine

    Hi Lain, I was in LOAD 211 and got a little behind. I was going through the challenges, completing LOs. I tried opening the Stacy Julian interview in post #20. Was that something available to us or were we required to purchase it? Also, was there going to be a compilation of the month’s prompts? Thanks I really enjoyed the challenges.

    Hi,  New to your site and podcasts…I have the volume all the way up on my computer and itunes and can barely hear you…the music then is extremely loud at the beginning…just wondering if others have made the same comments to you???

    Also, with LOAD is that a single page or double layout spread?????????

    Hi, new to your site and just downloaded the Fast Scrapping PDFs and mp3 interview with Stacy Julian special you offered when we subscribed. Yeah, I’m having some bad luck since we had a severe thunderstorm.  It downloaded successfully and not a couple minutes later the power went out and I lost the downloads.     hey lain… your enthusiasm just jumps through the computer at me!!   love it!!  question on the “mother load” are the layouts geared toward 1 or 2 picture layouts? and will there be 12 x12 spreads???  also  i understand you can change anything you choose but… do you recomend 4×6  or 5×7 pics that you work with on this project?? trying to order ahead.  :)   thanks  susan

    Hey you!
    Thanks for checking in! The layouts we create are more free-form. I don’t give directions specifically as to “Cut a 1/2″ strip of Studio Calico patterned paper and adhere it 1/8″ below your title, which you will do in blue letter stickers…” It’s more like, “Create a layout using this color combination” or “Start with a sketch, any sketch” and then I’ll give you some ideas of sketches to use. I want it to be flexible enough that a grandma in Des Moines can create a layout about her grand kids while a biker in Arizona is working on an album about her bikes… make sense? Every once in a while I may give a very specific prompt, like “Create a page about YOU.” But that’s maybe once or twice in the challenge.

    12×12, 8/5×11, two-page spreads, one-page layouts — it’s up to you!

    I would recommend choosing a variety of orientations (vertical and landscape) as well as a few enlargements. During the first nine weeks, we’ll be taking a photo a week. If you need a specific size I’ll let you know! But it’s good to have choices. :)

    Cassie, for layouts I use glue dots. For cards I use Glossy Accents from Ranger.

    Oh, Lain. So sorry. Just signed up for ScrapHappy with the 1yr/$99 deal through PayPal, and they did not bop me over to another page, and I did not have a continue button to push. Have I disintegrated into cyber dust now? Can it be fixed? What is my e-status?
    Also, will the 2012 LOADs be Feb-May-Oct again? Do I get to partake in the upcoming LOAD?

    Thanks soooo much for your podcast!  You are a breath of fresh air in the middle of my week!

    I have 2 questions and I would really, really appreciate your opinion.  First, which white ink pad provides a visible image on dark paper?
    Second, I have seen lots of online tutorials using Copic markers.  They are overwhelming!  The cost of the pens is so high and it seems like you need so many shades of each color to make beautiful images.  Is there a cheaper alternative to Copic markers that looks good enough?  If not, how could I begin a Copic collection in an economical but useful way?

    Hi Lain! Just listened to a podcast where you asked us to write in with “product” ideas, so here goes: 1) Something about mistakes we make while doing a layout. I’m imagining you can be practical/technical about how to fix or embellish over the mistakes. Maybe also more philosophical about perfectionism, and the attitude to take when a page is done but you just don’t like it. (I never go back and re-do a page, but I’ve heard that some people do. 2) Something about privacy. In journaling and sometimes just choosing a topic for a page, how to decide how personal/intimate to get. Like if it’s frustration with a parent, or breaking up with a friend, or coping with a personal failing, or boasting, or being fed up with a spouse’s habit, or messing up, or dealing with an issue of personal health. 3) Something about the unexpected, as a scrapbooker. As in: I didn’t think I’d ever made cards or use Copic markers, but now I do. Or: I thought when I bought the set of 100 pens from Costco, I’d never have to buy another pen, but now they’re mostly dried out.

    I’ve been jumping back and forth looking at your site, and I just want to say thanks! I had been in a scrapbook slump a while ago, and since finding your site, I’ve been inspired. So much so that I have been doing a layout every day or 2 days. I’m on a roll! I have even tried different techniques (like sewing on my pages) that had me ‘petrified’. But I’ve gotten past that! And I think I owe all to you. I can’t always get to your website (I have a very demanding toddler!! :) ) but when I do, it is definitely worthwhile!!

    I am dreaming about doing a project for my porch. If I am using chipboard can i decopage the piece first, put on my paper and varnish over to make it waterproof, it is a covered screen porch on the back wall.  Using a wooden trellis as my mainframe.

    or is there a better way to make water resistent.

I have been concentrating on my photography business and now I am back.  I don’t know where to start??? I have taken vacations and have so many different albums I am behind on.  I don’t even know where I am at on printing photos and what I need to scrap because I am so behind/overwhelmed.   I know my style and I am inspired to scrap by my photos but want everything in chronological order :-) .  Have a super day!
