The Ghost Inside: Fun with Acrylic Shapes

by Lain Ehmann on May 29, 2011

I have mentioned before how much I love acrylic shapes! Watch the video and then look below for some additional resources:

My favorite adhesive for adding acrylic shapes is Ranger’s Glossy Accents

Here’s the gold leaf pen I use to edge the shapes:

Hi Lain, thanks for the great video, what do you think about cutting up your packaging with say Tim holtz scissors to make your own hearts? I haven’t tried it and would be interested in your thoughts.

    Hi Lain,

There are loads of fun acrylic shapes by Buzz and Bloom! The are all laser cut and many are also laser engraved! Find them in the ebay store: http://bit.ly/kTCkSN and you can find heaps of great ideas and techniques on the blog here: http://bit.ly/ikfwyI I’ll happily ship to the US and most anywhere else in the world. I absolutely love acryilic! it is so much fun to work with, and it’s layering properties make it awesome starting point for techniques and working with paint, ink, glitter etc. We have alphabets, shapes, and even mini book kits, and they come in a bunch of colours too! Full range can be seen on our website http://www.buzzandbloom.com if there’s anything you see  on the website and not on the ebay store, email me and I’ll see what I can do.

Another good idea will be to cut your own shapes from any packaging left over using the diecut machines like Sizzix and Cuttlebug!.  Thanks Lain for the ideas, I have several of these shapes and never use them before.

I also like cutting the shapes or letters from used packaging. I have embossed those. Another source would be Maya road acrylic mini albums. I break the albums apart and use the shapes. They also have key chains and mini sets. If there is a hole from an album ring, I hide it with a small jewel or other embellishment.

Thank you for the suggestions! I did a follow-up post where I made some of my own from packaging – such a great idea. I love reusing and up-cycling.

Cool idea! Don’t think of that often to use on a page, just like stamps don’t think to use that often neither. Like 1jannette I thought of the packaging and cutting those with the die cut machines uh oh I may be doing some die cutting this weekend :)

Thanks for the video and links! You can also cut your own shapes with the Cameo and other electronic cutting machines!
