If you go to any scrapbook industry manufacturer’s website, you’ll likely see a link to their online gallery. In addition to tutorials and projects on their blog, this is where they showcase all the fabulous things you can create with their products.
And guess what? SOMEONE has to create all those fabulous samples… and that someone could be you.
Virtually every manufacturer in the industry has an in-house or contract team whose job it is to create projects and pages with their latest and greatest products. Think it sounds like fun? Ummm.. YEAH!
Great for: Cutting-edge, creative scrapbookers who can think outside the box and set trends, as well as those who can work well under deadlines.
Earning potential: While these designers receive free product to create with, they’re also often compensated for their work on a per-piece or retainer basis. The pay won’t allow you to retire to Lake Como, Italy, and buy a villa next to George Clooney, but it can fund your next shoe shopping trip (think in the $10 per project range).
Suggestions: Start stalking the blogs of your favorite manufacturers. Not only will you get a good sense of the projects and style they’re looking for, you also may get the word that they’re hiring. Check their employment pages, too. If you don’t see anything listed, there’s nothing like a little face-to-face networking. Maybe it’s time for you to make a trip to CHA!
