Me? Techniques? (and a Giveaway)

by Lain Ehmann on August 22, 2011

You know me — the 30-minutes-or-less gal. The fast scrapbooking queen. The “if it doesn’t get done in the length of one Barney video, it’s not getting done” lady.

So what in the heck am **I** doing, writing about technique?

Well, even fast scrapbookers like to get their tech on! :) And that’s why this summer I signed up for the Summer Card Camp put on by Kristina Werner and Jennifer McGuire. And it ROCKED.

So that’s why I’m so excited about this latest venture… the Inspiration Showcase!

Here’s what they say about it:

Have you ever felt stumped while crafting? Looking for somewhere to find much needed inspiration?

This class is just what you’ve been looking for! Previously only taught in stores, Online Card Classes is happy to bring you Inspiration Showcase with Jennifer McGuire! Join Jennifer in creating a canvas featuring innovative techniques and fabulous pieces that will be sure to kick-start your creativity the next time you need it.

In this class, you will follow the creation of a 12×12 canvas utilizing over 40 fabulous techniques including tried-and-true favorites as well as new tips and techniques. This technique-heavy class will explore the many forms of resist, creative uses of distress inks, die cut and embossing techniques along with fabulous finishing touches and using your stamps with more than just the usual suspects of ink and paper.  Through daily videos, you will learn creative ways to make your supplies go farther, such as creating your own embellishments and making the most of your inks, stamps and papers. There will also be 15+ additional card ideas using techniques shown.

This class, which runs from September 12 – 23 and costs only $19, includes:

thanks for the info, I did their previous course too and the video and stuff were awesome. Jennifer is so talented! A technique I always love the look of (but can sometimes be too lazy to plug into the wall socket) is heat embossing, jennifer makes it looks so amazing every time.

  • Amy K

This sounds like a fabulous class.  My favorite technique is embossing (dry, heat, resist).  Thanks for the chance to win a spot.

  • Jeanette_mcgee

This looks like a really fun class.  I would love to win.  I would like to learn more of the messy stuff, distress inks, mists, etc.  I have seen these but never used them.  Thanks for a chance to win.

I have a lot of stamps that don’t get much use.  I’d like to learn ways to incorporate them into my scrapping.  Also, I get overwhelmed when I attempt to buy stamps.  What would be some good “go-to” stamps to have on hand for general scrap use?  Thanks for the chance!

  • Annawbk

Lain:  I completely agree about how amazing Jennifer’s classes are.  I have watched all of her on-line video and love to play with some of the distress ink techniques she’s shown.  I think my favorate is making mixed “water color” die cut pieces.  This is where she stamps serveral colors of distress ink onto a the matt and then spritzes it with lots of water.  She then runs various punched or dies cut shapes through the mixed ink to give it an amazing water color effect.  I would love to learn more.

  • Rebecca Lovell

I would love to take one of Jennifer’s classes – thank you so much for the chance to win this one!  I would love to learn more about distressing edges of papers.  Inking them right just eludes me.

these past few weeks, I’ve looked into her blog and a few other people that do really cool things w/ stamps, resists, embossing and inks…  my interest has been peaked and for the first time in a decade, I’ve seen enough very cool stuff to think of buying a heat gun – oh my!!!  I would like to continue being inspired and perhaps even dare to dive in myself…  I am going to seriously think about taking this class (just trying not to be totally impulsive :) )  thanks for the chance to win a spot :)

  • Lisa M.

I first really learned about Jennifer through your True Scrap.  Since then I have bought some inks and stamps and tentatively tried my hand at stamping, but that is all ink and stamp.  I would love to try some additional or expanded inking/stamping techniques: more embossing, resist stamping…  I just bought some watercolor paper yesterday to try stamping and then spraying it with water….hmm…we will see.

  • smgreen

I recently rediscovered chalks. I’ve been stamping my image with versamark, the chalking over the versamark.  Lots of fun!

  • JenRay

Does inking the edges count? I am always inking the edges of the pieces of my LO with chalk ink. I was a stamper befoe I was a scrapbooker, but I hardly ever stamp anymore. Maybe this class would get me inspired again. Thanks for the chance to win!

I love the  emboss resist technique.

  • Cherie

I am into watercolors right now. Just playing for now. Hoping to get better so that I can actually show somebody my work. ;-)

  • Hwilde

I used to like to emboss and then watercolor the image, but now that I digiscrap my favorite technique is up for grabs!!!!

  • Erin

I am always looking to try new things. Although I am a fast scrapper also, I will add techniques to dazzle up my pages. I pretty much take the new idea, and downsize it for quick scrapping. This class would be fun to see new ideas. Thanks

  • Ragnhild

I love Jennifer McGuire, so I really hope I win this. My favorite technique changes, but I guess I do a lot of paper piecing, and I also love masking and then shake a paintbrush of white paint over craft cardstock.

  • Ronna Tradewell

My favorite technique is inking and or stamping on pages. Also enjoy using my cricut.

  • Laura Church

My favourite technique is to spritz my stamp with water after inking so the ink is more subtle.

  • Laew

I’d like to learn how to get more use out of my distress inks as I tend to use them only for very basic uses.

  • Lisa

I was very inspired by all the techniques Jennifer showed us during True Scrap and I would love to win a place in her class to learn and try these techniques. Right now I am an occasional stamper and ink on the edges girls. I am ready to expand my horizons — PICK ME!!!

Hey Laew, did you watch my video on distress inkpads? The same technique can be used for the inks: http://www.layoutaday.com/tim-holtz-distress-inks-techniques-for-scrapbookers-video/

  • Sue Carey

I’d like to learn about distress inks, so I guess I’ll have to check out that video you mention in the comments.

  • Iceteeeeee

My favorite technique is inking the edges of papers and embellishments so that they stand out more on my pages.

  • Lisa J

This class looks like so much fun. I especially love that you’re introduced to numerous techniques & it is then put together in one beautiful project.
Currently one of my favourite techniques is heat embossing with clear powder and then distress inking over top.
    Thanks for the chance.
