We’re taking a VERY brief break from our True Scrap teacher interviews to bring an update on my latest event – Scrapbook Improv! Wednesday night scores of scrappers joined me on Facebook and Ustream for a hands-on scrapbooking event that combined improv comedy with scrapbooking. I had my handy spinner:

and I got input from the audience at every step of the way! I was using two kits, Studio Calico Abroad patterned papers and a monthly kit from the amazing Gossamer Blue.

I talk in detail about the event on the podcast, but I wanted to share my layouts with you here as well.

First, though, let me tell you about Gossamer Blue. They’re a new kit club company located in California (yay!). Founded by Lori Gentile, the kits are jam-packed with very well-coordinated products, as well as PNG and SVG files created by Lori Whitlock for your digi/hybrid scrapping. Cool!!!

Here’s what was in my August kit that Gossamer Blue provided to me:

ADORBS! I had so much fun with this. And it coordinated very well with the papers and products from Studio Calico to give me more options for Scrapbook Improv.

So, in order of creation, here are my layouts from Wednesday night:

#1: “Don’t Miss It” (Mostly Gossamer Blue with SC stars and letters)

Challenges:

  • Subject: “Don’t Miss It”
  • Embellishments: Stickers
  • Journaling: By the Numbers
  • Technique: Misting
  • Extra challenge: Use only washi tape as adhesive
  • Extra challenge: Use product packaging

#2: Last Weekend (mostly SC. Journaling block, label, and tiny letters are from the Gossamer Blue kit. Stamp and Zing embossing powder from my stash.)

  • Technique: Embossing
  • Extra challenge: No paper trimmer!

#3: Pancake Perfection (SC patterned paper and tag; the rest is from the Gossamer Blue kit)

Challenges:

  • Topic: Favorite food
  • Embellishments: Stickers
  • Technique: Triangle patterned paper
  • Journaling: Conversation
  • Extra challenge: Alliterative title
  • Extra challenge: No paper trimmer!

#4: Airtastic (Gossamer Blue cardstock, words, buttons, journaling block. Patterned paper and stickers from SC. Stamp from my stash.)

Challenges:

  • Topic: Fabulous Firsts
  • Embellishments: Buttons
  • Technique: Stamping
  • Journaling: Mad Libs
  • Extra challenge: Wordfetti!

Challenges:

  • Topic: Sibling Rivalry
  • Embellishments: Washi tape
  • Technique: Brad usage
  • Journaling: By the numbers
  • Extra challenge: Stamp with a body part!

I had so much fun with this kit that I created two additional layouts!

Here’s the first:

Sweet Dreams (all from Gossamer Blue kit, except inks used to color banners and title)

Totally getting a kick from the Heidi Swapp Color Magic banners that I can custom color!

And here’s the last:

Together (all from the Gossamer Blue kit with the addition of the title cut from Silhouette Cameo via a Lori Whitlock design, and the ink used to edge elements)

I was only able to watch for a little bit, but it was lots of fun. I’m glad you’ll be doing it again next month… I hope to join in and scrap along!

  • carol in seattle :)

Great job Lain! It was fun watching you scrap. Next time how about a shorter time period – maybe only two hours instead of four? I was bummed to have to leave part way through.

  • LainEhmann

Yup, we’ll do two hours. I wanted to do a longer period of time so more people could check in and see what it was all about. Thanks for coming!

  • LainEhmann

    Yay! Thanks for stopping by!

  • Regine

Hi Lain! I found your story very inspiring while listening to Pat Flynn’s podcast. I did mention you and Layout a day in one of my articles at my website. Just thought of informing you that I’ll link it to your sites. Anyhow, keep up inspiring a lot. And who says, you can’t make money out of scrap booking? You’re the living proof.

  • LainEhmann

Thanks, Regine! PLease do send me a link so I can check it out. You can reach me at lain at layout a day dot com. Thanks!

  • Lori Gentile

Lain, thank you. I only got to see a little bit, but I was so impressed with what you were able to do in such a short amount of time. I LOVE everything you did with the kit. I plan to follow along next month. As I was watching, I couldn’t help but want to sit and scrapbook! Your improv is a FANTASTIC idea!!!
