Scrapbook Improv: Easy Scrapbook Pages in 30 Minutes or Less!

by Lain Ehmann on March 28, 2013

scrapbookimprovEasy Scrapbook Designs, Boy Pages with Bling, and Dog Bones!

We rocked the web with Scrapbook Improv last night! With our largest live crowd to date (over 120 people!), we chatted about Christmas scrapbook pages in March, we heard pirate jokes, and we laughed, laughed, laughed (as always!). If you missed the live version, the replay is available here: Scrapbook Improv Replay.

Gossamer Blue sponsored us with March’s kit. Here it is in all its loveliness:gossamer blue scrapbooking kit

Don’t you just love those colors?

Fast Layout #1: Dear Santa

Subject/Title: “Christmas.” I selected photos of a letter to Santa the girls wrote several years ago.

Technique: Use only scraps!

Journaling: Computer-generated

Background: Cardstock

Embellishment: Border

Notes: All products except the acetate transparency, the red patterned paper, and the journaling pen were from the March Gossamer Blue kit. Because I had to use scraps and this was the first layout of the evening, I had to dig into my own stash of leftovers.

Fast Layout #2: March Madness

Subject/Title: “March Madness.” There were some good ideas floating around about using brackets on my page, but I chose to take the basketball spin and use a photo of Ben from 2004 (!!).

Technique: Stamping

Journaling: Rhyme (this is always a tough one on the fly, but it gets to some fun descriptive words).

Background: Cardstock

Embellishment: Bling

Notes: All products except the bling, the black journaling pen, and the stamp were from the March Gossamer Blue kit. The stamp came from a previous month’s kit and I LOVE IT. I also like how the “This Is It” big dimensional jewel looks like a basketball. Fun! Oh, and YES I USED BLING AND JEWELS on a boy scrapbook page. Bring it on!

Fast Layout #3: Little Puppies

Subject/Title: “Before and After.” This topic was a bit hard as I only had a small stack of photos to work with. But I chose this great photo of my kids all wearing their baby beanies from the hospital. It shows the “before and after” of when they were tiny and when the photo was taken (the photo is several years old – love diggin up those older pics!).

Technique: Embossing

Journaling: Haiku (!!)

Background: Patterned paper

Embellishment: Buttons

Extra Challenge #1: Use product packaging (the “Crazy” word was cut from product packaging).

Extra Challenge #2: Use something from the “Bag o’ Fun.” This was the toughest part of the whole layout! I grabbed a bone-shaped paper clip with a dog face attached to it. Since I got that early in the process, I arranged a lot of the page around it, choosing the “puppies” theme.

Notes: All products except the black journaling pen, dog bone and face (unknown), the embossing folder (Cuttlebug) and the ink were from the March Gossamer Blue kit.

I also created two more layouts this morning with the “leftovers”.

Extra Layout #1: For the Record

One of the suggested page topics for last  night was my favorite book. It may be a little egotistical, but my favorite book EVER is, of course, Snippets! The only “extras” used on this page was the yellow baker’s twine and the border and circle punches, and that amazing arrow stamp I talked about above.

Extra Layout #2: Garden of Eden

I actually created a whole video about how I came up with the story for this layout. You can watch it here: Are You Bored with Your Photos?

Everything but the yellow baker’s twine and the yellow lace is from the March Gossamer Blue kit.

We’ll be doing it again on April 24, so mark your calendar NOW! And order your April Gossamer Blue kit so you can scrap along!
