Silhouette Art Journaling + Deal!

by Lain Ehmann on July 1, 2013

july-blogger-DE-promoIf there’s one tool that has saved me a ton of time, money, and stress, it’s my Silhouette CAMEO.

It saves me TIME because I can just create the title or shape I want instead of digging through my letter stickers or embellishments looking for it.

It saves me MONEY because I can make EXACTLY what I want using supplies I already have on hand.

It saves me STRESS because I don’t have to think, “Oh, those pinks don’t QUITE match,” or, “If ONLY I had an arrow shape that would fit precisely in this blank spot.” I just whip it up and cut it out!

I have had my CAMEO for several years now, but I recently upgrade to the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software package. It allows me to cut .SVG files that I can import to my Silhouette library. It has opened up a whole new world!

I’ve now started using my CAMEO to cut shapes to use in my art journal, like this:

#Silhouette Studio Designer Edition sale

Here’s how I did it. I imported an SVG file (“important” from Lori Whitlock) into the Silhouette Studio using the Designer Edition software. Then I cut it out, and used the positive image as a template in my art journal. I covered it with black acrylic paint, let it dry, and then traced the letters in white, added some Distress Stickles, and peeled it up:

Using the #cameo as a template

Then I went to town on the page, adding other elements. Then “voila,” as they say in Gay Paree!

And you know that me being me, this whole process took less than 30 minutes. That’s how I roll. :)

SO… if YOU do not yet have a Cameo (or its little sister, the Portrait), or you have a Cameo but don’t have the Designer Edition software, today’s your lucky day! From now through July 10, Silhouette is running some SCREAMING sales:

Want! How often do you use a full 12×12 sheet? What other reasons would you get the big one vs. the little one?

  • LainEhmann

I rarely use the whole 12×12 sheet. I know some people do create custom background overlays, but I do not. I think the smaller one would actually work quite well for me.

That’s one great deal, thanks Lain. I just got it. Any suggestions on where to find some good tutorials? I’ve only used my Silhouette about 6 times and am loving it! I would love to be able to tinker with excisting shapes so that I can change them into altered shapes:-)

  • LainEhmann

Whoops, sorry about the delay. What type of tutorials are you looking for? Let me know and I can recommend some good ones.

Hi Lain, I am looking for a good basic+ one. I can cut out shapes no problem but I would really like to be able to do more with the software like weld shapes together or making new cutlines to change my shapes.
