Simon Says Stamp – June Card Kit

by Lain Ehmann on June 7, 2013

June Card KitFor those of you who are new to the Layout a Day blog, let me warn you that it’s usually all scrapbooking, all the time around here. But when it comes to crafts, I’m a bit of a hussy loose woman! I LOVE scrapbooking, but I also partake of stamping, card-making, art journaling, and lots of other stuff. So occasionally I’ll share some of these other crafty pursuits with you here.

One thing I do on a monthly basis is replenish my stash of handmade cards. And even when I’m working on other crafts, I stick with the same principles: Fast, simple and fun. And one way I make sure my card-making sticks to those three criteria is by using Simon Says Stamp’s card kits. I subscribe to their basic card kit, and can I just say…. I LOVE IT!

There’s always more than enough goodies for the creation of at least eight cards, if not many more. In this photo above you can see what I did with the kit just in the last day or so. And here’s what came in this month’s kit:

Wowzerz!

The ONLY thing I didn’t absolutely love is that roll of mustache washi. I’m kind of over the whole mustache thing. In fact, I never really got into it. Seriously, one of the requirements for me to marry my husband was for him to shave off his mustache:

before and afterDon’t you think it was a good decision?

Anyhow… back to the matter at hand. The cards. I thought you might like to see them! Please remember: I’m a fast crafter. These were done in less than 5 minutes EACH. Which means I created about 7 cards in just over half an hour. I think it took that long for John to shave!

The only thing I added was the brown ink and the brown and white baker’s twine (everything’s better with twine!). There you have it! Nice patterns and options. The boldness of the patterns and contrast of the colors makes it easy to make a visual impact without going overboard with technique. Not that I have anything against technique! I just like to sleep more. Ha!

Okay. I’m tired now.

Haha…I’m not wild over the mustache washi either. I figure it’ll be used for positioning dies for my cuttlebug or something.

My husband is not allowed to shave his mustache off. It’s in our wedding contract. I’ve seen pics, it’s not pretty. I kinda wish he wouldn’t make it so pencil thin all the time tho.

My dad has had a mustache his entire life – he will be 63 in July – he has been serving a church mission in Fiji the last 18 months and had to shave his mustache before he left – it was a HUGE shock seeing him without a mustache. It’s just so weird! He will grow it back as soon as his mission is done in October:)
