Summer Inspiration: From Idea to Page – The Layout

by Lain Ehmann on June 28, 2013

Hello again! It’s Monica here, back to share my layout. Yesterday I shared a prompt and a challenge with you. Create a layout inspired by this photo. (You can still join in the challenge by linking up your layout in the comments here).

Today I’m back to share the layout that I was inspired to create.

When looking at my towel I was inspired by the bright colors and bold stripes. While I could have created a literal translation and used pattern paper to create stripes, I chose to let the feel of the towel inspire my paper choice.

This pattern paper was perfect because it had similar colors and bold lines, but a lot of fun whimsy as well.

I also loved the way the black sunglasses stood out against the towel, so I chose to use a black and white photo on my layout. This way the photo really stands out against that bold pattern paper.

The towel has a solid border at the top and the bottom. I had considered using washi tape to create that border, but it just looked too busy with the pattern paper. So instead I used solid cardstock to create a border around my page.

Once I added a title, some journaling and a bit of embellishment I was done.

The best part? I completed this page in about 30 minutes! All because I let the towel inspire my design choices. Who knew a beach towel could do so much to inspire your scrapbooking?
