Three Super-Fast SImple Scrapbooking Layouts from layoutaday.com

Want to know about the most fun you can have LEGALLY? It’s Scrapbook Improv!

(If you missed it, you can catch the replay here.)

As always, a big thanks to Gossamer Blue for sponsoring the evening. I had so much fun with this travel-themed kit:

Because I was taking cues from the audience, I didn’t get to put all the travel-themed items to full use, so I’m looking forward to diving into those a little more. So much goodness in one little (big) kit! ;)

Okay, on to the layouts. These three are very simple scrapbook pages I created LIVE at SI last night in 30 minutes or less.

Fast Layout #1:

Subject/Title: “Summer Fun”

Technique: Distress/Ink

Journaling: List

Background: Patterned Paper

Embellishment: Border

Extra Challenge: Use product packaging

Notes: All products except the journaling pen, punch, thread, ink, and staples were part of the Gossamer Blue kit. I cut the tickets from the patterned paper and added them individually to create a border. I turned some of the chipboard from one of the packages into the journaling block at the bottom left of the page.

Fast Layout #2:

Subject/Title: “On the Road”

Technique: Embossing

Journaling: Paper Strips

Background: Patterned Paper

Embellishment: Tags

Notes: All products except the journaling pen, embossing panels, and tags were part of the Gossamer Blue kit.

Fast Layout #3:

Subject/Title: “___ Crush.”

Technique: Punching

Background: Patterned Paper

Embellishment: Wood Veneer

Extra Challenge: Use Scraps

Notes: All products except the journaling pen, punch, and wood veneer shapes were part of the Gossamer Blue kit. (The wood veneers included in the kit were travel-related, and everyone agreed that it would be okay for me to swap them out for some heart shapes from my own kit).

We talked a lot about “making things work” while crafting. One of the reasons I can scrapbook fast is that I don’t second-guess myself… I just keep going!

P.S. Here’s the PDF of the prompt sheet I used. I make some updates each month, but this is the basic idea.

Hunh – I never thought of embossing tags! Great idea!

  • S Scott

love the layouts but I still want to do some inking on the tags to bring out the design more just the middle one maybe in a color to go with the alphas.

  • Jennifer Stahr

Absolutely love your layouts, Lain! And I really love the embossing on the tags! I never thought of doing that, but now I’m going to try it! :)

  • teddi

i took the 30 days list class once, but i wasn’t impressed with it, nor inspired. for me it was just list prompts & others showing versions of how they interpreted those lists. i didn’t feel i learned or saw anything new, interesting or different, of course that’s just my personal opinion.& experience.

  • Heather Dubarry

What does inspire you? I really like Lain’s prompts, but that doesn’t mean they can or should work for everyone. What gets you feeling and acting creative?

  • Sandy Belleville

That’s a shame – I guess not everyone gets inspired the same way. I find Lain’s tips, prompts etc very useful, even the smallest tip can help. Perhaps you need to find another site that suits your needs???

  • teddi

i find lain’s tips very helpful too! i was talking about another class i took a few years ago from somewhere else. i think that class was called 30 days of lists. in the improv video someone had mentioned it, and lain asked for feedback because she’d never taken the class herself. the class i took might even have been a different one than they were talking about on the video.

  • LainEhmann

Thanks, Teddi! I realize you were talking about the 30 Days of Lists class, not my classes. :)

  • LainEhmann

Hey Sandy! Thanks for having my back. I think Teddi was talking about a different class that came up during Improv – not one of mine. :)

  • LainEhmann

    I love you guys. :)

  • LainEhmann

Thank you so much! It’s amazing what I come up with on the spur of the moment. I NEVER would have come up with that if I had had a ton of time to think about it. Necessity is the mother of invention! Maybe next I’ll invent the Post-It.

  • LainEhmann

Go for it! I was limited by time and that darned spinner.

  • LainEhmann

    Thanks, Amy! :)

  • Sandy Belleville

Oh so sorry Teddi – I didn’t mean to be rude or anything. I had only read your reply and thought gee don’t hold back there, just bag Lain out why don’t ya! So I am truly sorry for the misunderstanding :(
