Why LOAD? Why Scrapbook?

by Lain Ehmann on January 27, 2012

A few weeks ago, someone emailed me (a twenty-something, unmarried, male “someone”) and asked me why I scrapbook. “What’s the point?” he said. “I just don’t get it.”

I was really glad he asked, though I was a bit taken aback at first. I mean, why WOULDN’T you scrapbook? ;)

With the imminent arrival of Layout a Day 212 next Wednesday, I get similar questions more frequently:

-Why would you want to scrapbook every day?

-What do you talk about in your scrapbooking layouts?

-Why do you put so much energy into this? Aren’t people just going to scrapbook anyway?

Well, as you know by now — I am absolutely PASSIONATE about helping women capture their memories and their family’s memories in a fun, simple, and meaningful manner. As for why I scrapbook? Well, watch this short video.

I hope after you watch it, you’ll decide to join me and 336 other scrapbookers at LOAD 212. Your photos and your family will thank you. :)

P.S. If you like the video, feel free to share it!

I’ve cried while watching this everytime you have posted it…and today was no exception.  It’s so much more than pretty papers and glue.  Thank you.

Wow, Lain the video is so moving tears are rolling down my face, it puts the meaning of why I scrapbook into the right prespective for me at the moment, especially for what i will be doing in LOAD 212pp.  Thank you for your wonderful words.

I am just curious why you only support women, and not all scrapbookers?

As a man who enjoys this passion, it’s already a challenge to not feel like i am judged for my choices, and when i read things like “Well, as you know by now — I am absolutely PASSIONATE about helping women capture their memories…”, it’s really hurtful to know that this is a community that I am not welcome in.

    Hi Eric-

I’m sorry you felt hurt, and that was not my intention. The reality is that I teach that which I know – which is being a woman with kids capturing my family’s memories and helping others to do the same. EVERYONE is welcome here, even though my personal passion is in helping women and most of my material is aimed at the unique needs that women have, just as a weight loss program might be aimed specifically at women, but appeal to both sexes.

If you are not finding the validation and support you need, I would encourage you to start a blog or resources to support men in scrapbooking. I’d be glad to put you in touch with a few male scrapbookers if that would assist you. Again, NO ONE is excluded but I am writing and creating from my passion, personality, and experiences. I hope some of it may be helpful to you.
